BREVE MENTE APRESENTA // COSMOS by Keziban Baskı

A série “Cosmo” (“No Place on This Earth, A Place on Its Own”) investiga a intrínseca relação entre a imaginação e o conceito de lugar-espaço. Representado de forma vibrante em óleo amarelo, rosa e vermelho pastel sobre papel branco, as figuras desta série servem de ponto focal, rodeadas por uma dinâmica de interação com o espaço. Cada figura imaginária incorpora um eixo central, moldando o espaço à sua volta e permitindo que a narrativa desenrola.

A exposição desafia as noções convencionais de espaço e propriedade, defendendo a ideia de que cada indivíduo merece um lugar próprio. Ao sobrepor espaços geométricos reais com a ambiguidade perceptiva das figuras de “Cosmo”, surge um diálogo visual entre o concreto e o abstrato. Os espectadores são convidados a refletir sobre a sua compreensão de lugar, identidade e pertença, estimulando uma exploração mais profunda dos espaços que habitamos e a liberdade de existir de forma única.
A série pretende sublinhar a importância de criar espaços inclusivos onde os indivíduos possam prosperar e expressar-se livremente.

Keziban Baskı, artista contemporânea de Ancara, Turquia, expôs os seus trabalhos internacionalmente, realizou exposições individuais na Turquia, e contribuiu para o ‘Partisyon Journal of Music and Thought ‘como escritora e coeditora. A prática artística de Keziban Baskı investiga a relação entre a linguagem, tanto linguística e visual, e o seu impacto nas suas pinturas, vídeos e esculturas. O seu trabalho explora uma ampla gama de temas relacionados com a linguagem, incluindo questões de propriedade, lugar, perceção de género, patriarcado e alfabetização. Assim como a linguagem – como uma estrutura diacrónica – necessita de uma superfície para ganhar uma realidade objetiva na forma de escrever, nas suas pinturas a pastel, o papel vazio para as imagens extraídas. A estrutura diacrónica da vida é uma superfície portadora onde as imagens ganham apenas realidade, e não um espaço.

The “Cosmo” series (“No Place on This Earth, A Place on Its Own”) delves into the intricate relationship between imagination and the concept of place-space. Vibrantly depicted in yellow, pink, and red oil pastels on white paper, the figures in this series serve as a focal point, surrounded by a dynamic interplay of space. Each imaginary figure embodies a central axis, shaping the space around them and allowing for a narrative to unfold. The first and last images of the series are sketches of the sponge sculptures in which the figures will live.

The exhibition challenges conventional notions of space and ownership, advocating for the idea that everyone deserves a place of their own. By juxtaposing real geometric spaces with the perceptual ambiguity of the figures in “Cosmo”, a visual dialogue emerges between the concrete and the abstract. Viewers are invited to reflect on their understanding of place, identity, and belonging, prompting a deeper exploration of our spaces and the freedom to exist uniquely. The series aims to underscore the significance of creating inclusive spaces where individuals can thrive and express themselves freely.

Keziban Baskı, a contemporary artist from Ankara, Türkiye, has exhibited her works internationally. She has held solo exhibitions in Türkiye. She has contributed to “Partisyon Journal of Music and Thought” as a writer and co-editor. Keziban Baskı’s artistic practice delves into the inticate relationship between language, both linguistic and visual, and its impact on her paintings, videos, and sculptures. Her work explores a wide range of language-related themes, including issues of property, place, gender perception, patriarchy, and literacy. Just as a language with a diachronic structure needs a carrier surface to gain objective reality in the form of writing, in her pastel paintings, the empty paper ground for the images drawn from the diachronic structure of life is a carrier surface where the images gain reality only, rather than a space
