No dia 4 de Janeiro, o realizador André Laranjinha exibe os seus dois filmes “A Ilha do Preto” e “Matança” na Oficinas do Convento, convidando todos os interessados a assistir.
“A Ilha do Preto”
Sinopse: Fantasia rasante sobre um homem-ilha preto.
“Matança”
Sinopse: A tradição da matança do porco é ainda um importante meio de subsistência para uma parte da população açoriana.
Originalmente, o ritual da “Matança” durava vários dias e envolvia toda uma comunidade. Hoje em dia, faz-se apenas durante o fim de semana e é sobretudo um evento familiar.
O filme “Matança”, enquanto nos mostra como se mata e desmancha o animal, também nos indica que o futuro da tradição depende da sua constante adaptação ao presente: os alguidares de barro deram lugar aos de plástico e, em vez de se cantar ao desafio, ouve-se música pop na rádio.
A avó, sentada no sofá a ver televisão, garante-nos que já se pode dar uma Matança à sua neta que ela faz tudo.

On the 4th of January, André Laranjinha exhibits his two films “A Ilha do Preto” and “Matança” in Oficinas do Convento, inviting everyone to attend.
“A Ilha do Preto”
Plot:Glanced fantasy about a black island-man.
“Matança”
Plot: The pig slaughter tradition is still an important mean of livelihood for a share of Azorean population. Originally, the ritual os the slauthering would last several days and would involve all the community. Nowadays, it takes place during a weekend, and it’s mostly a familiar event.
The filme “Matança”, while it shows us how to kill and dismantle the animal, it also indicates that the future of the tradition depends on its constant adaptation of the present: the clay bowls turned into plastic bowls and instead of singing to the challenge, people listen to pop music on the radio. The grandmother, sitting on the sofa watching television, ensures us that a slaughtering can be given to her grandchild that she already knows how to do it.
